Gordon Kirkby

Gordon Kirkby was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1985 and is a founding partner of Kirkby Law Office in Prince Albert. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Advanced) in Mathematics, magna cum laude, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan. With a practice spanning decades across Northern Saskatchewan, Mr. Kirkby has developed deep, enduring relationships with numerous Indigenous and Northern communities throughout the province.Gordon brings significant public service experience to his legal practice, having served as Mayor of Prince Albert before being elected to the House of Commons. As a Member of Parliament, he held several senior roles, including Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Chair of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources, Chair of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, and Chief Federal Negotiator. He has also served on the University of Saskatchewan Board of Governors and the Prince Albert Board of Police Commissioners. Gordon has extensive experience in all areas of Aboriginal law, including constitutional litigation, regulatory matters, Specific Claims, governance, and Indigenous business development. With over three decades of legal and political experience, he is particularly skilled in navigating complex legal issues and fostering productive relationships between Indigenous communities, government bodies, and private sector organizations. He also maintains a strong criminal defence practice, representing clients at all levels of court. Gordon lives in Prince Albert with his wife, celebrated Canadian author Mary-Ann Kirkby, and their son, Levi. In his personal time, he enjoys spending time outdoors - hunting and fishing activities that reflect his deep connection to the land and the northern communities he serves.

 

Roman Iatsenko

Roman is an associate at Kirkby Law, practising criminal law, immigration, personal injury, and no-fault claims. His diverse background and thoughtful approach enable him to provide clients with professional, empathetic, and effective legal support.Graduating in 2010 from the University of Internal Affairs in Ukraine with a focus on civil and commercial law, Roman gained early experience in litigation and dispute resolution. From 2010 to 2012, he worked as an assistant at a private law firm, primarily handling corporate bankruptcy cases, which deepened his understanding of business law complexities.In 2012, Roman immigrated to Canada and began immersing himself in the Canadian legal system. Since 2016, he has volunteered at Kirkby Law to gain practical experience in common law. He completed his Canadian legal education at the Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia, and was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 2022. Roman’s commitment to continuous learning and client-centered service makes him a valued member of the team, dedicated to supporting clients with integrity and care.
